I have always wondered what type of speed cameras the Malaysian traffic police uses(specifically which models). Finally on today’s The Star article, it is mentioned the exact model that the police have recently purchased to capture the speedsters; the LTI20-20 TruCAM.

From the video in the official Laser Technology Inc website the device seems to be the top of the line speed camera capturing HD video along with speed. It can even measure the distance between 2 vehicles for tailgating violations.

However,  a quick Google search revealed that there is a possibility of false speed readings from this device as investigated by the BBC:

Basically, since the device is a handheld one, there is a possibility of a “Slip Effect” which is when the device is not held steadily and “slips” while it’s taking a speed reading using the infrared laser. So, let’s all hope that our Malaysian police officers have steady hands. =)

Just kidding.. an alternative would be to purchase one of the anti-laser thingy to prevent them from getting a speed reading at all. Never seen or used one before, but the following video seems to suggest that it will work on this particular model of speed camera:
